In an effort to embrace and welcome the members of our Church with special needs and their families, the Diocese of Baton Rouge has begun hosting Sensory-Friendly Masses.
These Masses include lower lighting, softer music, and shorter, more literal homilies;
most importantly, they provide fellowship with other parishioners on a similar journey. We encourage families and individuals to get up and move if needed, to bring alternative seating, fidgets or noise cancelling headphones, and to participate in the liturgy just as they are.
The Fête-Dieu du Mississippi, “Blessing Louisiana and the Mighty River,” will be held Wednesday, Aug. 14 – Thursday, Aug. 15. The event will begin with an 8 a.m. Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral in Baton Rouge, 412 North St., Baton Rouge, followed by a processional to the river. Stops in the Diocese of Baton Rouge include a blessing at St. John the Evangelist Church Plaquemine, Ascension of Our Lord Church in Donaldsonville and St. Michael the Archangel Church in Convent, where there will be solemn vespers and all-night adoration. The St. Louis IX Art Society and St. Joseph Abbey will present a showing of the documentary “A Place at the Table: African-Americans on the Path to Sainthood” Thursday, Sept. 26, 6:30 – 9 p.m., at Benet Hall of St. Joseph Abbey, 75376 River Road, St. Benedict. All Are Welcome is a Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge ministry for exceptional needs individuals and their families. The ministry is looking for volunteers that are available for multiple events during the year.
We are hosting a training that will include instructions on communications and interaction with exceptional needs children, as well as expectations and "what to do" during the events. To volunteer with us, we ask that you are attend the training and commit to at least 2 volunteer opportunities.
