In an effort to generate revenue to conserve its oldest and most fragile sacramental records, the Archives Department began publishing its sacramental records. Beginning with Volume 1 in 1978, the Archives has continuously published abstracts of the Diocese’s earliest baptism, marriage, and burial records. The Diocese of Baton Rouge Catholic Church Records consists of a 22 volume series which spans the years 1707-1900.

Roots of Faith: A History of the Diocese of Baton Rouge tells the story of the Church in South Louisiana. From the first Mass in Baton Rouge on the banks of the Mississippi to the rise of the oil industry, this book explores the ways Catholicism has shaped the area that became the Diocese of Baton Rouge.
