The Acadian Brass Quintet, the resident brass ensemble for historic St. Joseph Cathedral in downtown Baton Rouge, plans a concert of sacred, classical, and popular contemporary music at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The newly named group is conducting its first performance outside the context of a liturgical service, according to David T. Summers, director of music and organist at the cathedral.
The program, with its classical and pop favorites and even some pipe organ solos, presents something for everyone, Summers said.
The selections include:
“Amparito Roca” by Jaime Texidor Dalmau
“Girl with the Flaxen Hair” by Claude Debussy
"Scherzo” by John Cheetham
“Contrapunctus I” from The Art of Fugue by J. S. Bach
“Ain’t Misbehavin’” by Fats Waller
“Sophisticated Lady” arrangement by J. Gale
11 Preludes for Organ (Op. 122) by Johannes Brahms
Chorale fantasia on “Valet will ich dir geben” (BWV 735) by J. S. Bach -- Triumphal March from “Judas Maccabaeus” by G. F. Handel
Sonata from “Die Bankelsangerlieder” by Anonymous
