Retirement of Pastors
Father Randy Cuevas, currently Pastor of St. Aloysius in Baton Rouge, will retire from active parish administration.
Father Michael Moroney, currently Pastor of St. Alphonsus Liguori in Greenwell Springs, will also retire from active parish administration.
Father Miles Walsh, previously retired from active parish administration, has generously served as Parochial Administrator of St. Helena in Amite since August 2023 and during his retirement.
The Diocese of Baton Rouge thanks these priests for their many years of service to the people of our local Church!
Reassignments Outside of Baton Rouge
Father Edward J. Chiffriller, SSJ, current Pastor of St. Francis Xavier in Baton Rouge, is assuming an assignment in another diocese. The Diocese of Baton Rouge thanks Father Chiffriller for his many years of service!
Pastor Appointments
Father Michael Alello, currently Pastor of St. Thomas More in Baton Rouge, is appointed Pastor of St. Aloysius in Baton Rouge. This appointment is in addition to his responsibilities as Dean of the Baton Rouge Deanery.
Father Reuben Dykes, currently Pastor of Mater Dolorosa in Independence, is appointed Pastor of St. Helena in Amite. This appointment is in addition to his responsibilities as Pastor of Mater Dolorosa in Independence and Dean of the Northeast Deanery.
Father Ugochukwu Henry Ihuoma, SSJ, currently Parochial Vicar of St. Francis Xavier in Baton Rouge is appointed Pastor of St. Francis Xavier in Baton Rouge.
Father Edwin Martin, currently Pastor of St. Anne in Napoleonville, St. Philomena in Labadieville, and Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Plattenville, is appointed Pastor of St. Thomas More in Baton Rouge.
Father Jason Palermo, currently Pastor of St. Joseph in French Settlement and St. Stephen the Martyr in Maurepas, is appointed Pastor of St. Alphonsus Liguori in Greenwell Springs.
Father Taylor Sanford, currently Chaplain and Director of St. Albert the Great Student Center in Hammond, is appointed Pastor of St. Joseph in French Settlement and St. Stephen the Martyr in Maurepas.
Father Amalraj Savarimuthu, IMS, currently Parochial Vicar at Most Blessed Sacrament in Baton Rouge, is appointed Pastor of St. Anne in Napoleonville, St. Philomena in Labadieville, and Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Plattenville.
Chaplain/Director Appointments
The Order of Preachers (Dominicans) currently stationed at Holy Ghost in Hammond will assume sacramental responsibilities and the pastoral care of students, faculty, and staff at St. Albert the Great Student Center in Hammond.
Parochial Vicar Appointments
Father Emilio Gomez, who currently assists the Hispanic Apostolate, is appointed Parochial Vicar of St. Helena in Amite and Mater Dolorosa in Independence.
Diaconate Appointments (Effective 01 June 2024)
Deacon Randall Clement, currently Deacon Assistant at St. John the Evangelist in Prairieville, is appointed as Deacon Assistant at Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Gramercy, St. Joseph in Paulina, and St. Michael the Archangel in Convent.
Deacon Ronald LeGrange is appointed as Deacon Assistant at St. John the Baptist in Zachary with his assigned Ministry of Charity to minister to the infirm in hospitals in Baker, Louisiana.
Deacon Randall Waguespack, currently Deacon Assistant at St. Margaret, Queen of Scotland in Albany, is relieved of his parochial assignment at St. Margaret and will serve in full time ministry as Director of the Diocesan Office of Life, Peace, and Justice.
Diaconate Appointments (Those Being Ordained 25 May 2024)
In consultation with the Office of the Diaconate, the Office of Formation for the Permanent Diaconate, and the Clergy Personnel Board, Bishop Michael Duca makes the following appointments effective 01 June 2024:
Deacon Mark Cloutier is appointed as Deacon Assistant at Our Lady of Mercy in Baton Rouge with his assigned Ministry of Charity to serve the needs of Prisoners in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Deacon Jeremy Doucet is appointed as Deacon Assistant at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini in Livonia, Immaculate Heart of Mary in Maringouin, and St. Joseph in Grosse Tete with his assigned Ministry of Charity to assist the faithful with canonical matters related to marriage cases in the Diocesan Tribunal.
Deacon Frank Titus is appointed as Deacon Assistant at St. John the Evangelist in Prairieville with his assigned Ministry of Charity to coordinate and support diocesan wide nursing home ministry in cooperation with the Diocesan Office of Life, Peace, and Justice.
