The penitential season of Lent begins with the Church’s exhortation “Repent, and believe in the gospel” which accompanies the imposition of ashes on the foreheads of the faithful.
On February 22, St, Joseph Cathedral, 401 Main Street in downtown Baton Rouge will observe Ash Wednesday and the Distribution of Ashes at the noontime Mass.
Bishop Michael G. Duca is the principal celebrant and homilist at the
noontime Mass, with Father J. Cary Bani, cathedral rector, as concelebrant.
“We welcome parishioners, friends, and visitors to join us at this special time
of grace during which we renew our Lenten practices of penance, fasting and abstinence, and doing works of charity and mercy,” said Father Bani.
Throughout Lent, the Cathedral will conduct these services:
-- Sunday Mass: 4:00 p.m. (Saturdays), and 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. (with choir).
-- Daily Mass: 12:05 p.m. Tuesday to Friday, with sacramental confessions from 11:15 a.m. to 11:55 a.m.
-- First Wednesday Eucharistic Adoration, March 1 and April 5, 10:00
a.m.-12:00 noon, followed by Mass.
-- Way of the Cross: 11:30 a.m. each Lenten Friday, led by the parish’s
