The Diocese of Baton Rouge continues its observance of the three-year Eucharistic Revival on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi this Sunday, June 11, with a Solemn Mass and Eucharistic procession beginning at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Cathedral in Baton Rouge.
The event is part of the grassroots revival of devotion and belief in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, as called by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. The bishops have said they believe that God wants to see a movement of American Catholics healed, converted, formed, and unified by an encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist and for those Catholics to be sent on a mission “for the life of the world.” Many church parishes in the U.S. dioceses, including the Diocese of Baton Rouge, have held Holy Hours, Eucharistic retreats, and additional opportunities to learn about and abide with Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, diocesan officials said.
The Most Rev. Michael G. Duca, Bishop of Baton Rouge, will celebrate the Mass for the Solemnity of Corpus Christi at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, June 11. At the conclusion of Mass, Bishop Duca -- carrying a monstrance containing the Sacred Body of Christ in the form of a consecrated host – will lead the faithful in a formal procession around Cathedral Square.
The procession ends in the cathedral with Benediction and the Divine Praises. “As we continue this beautiful devotion during this second year of this revival, let us all begin to pray about how the Lord is personally calling each of us to a revival of the heart, mind, and soul,” Bishop Duca said.
