Albert Blount and Joseph Bresowar are scheduled to be ordained transitional deacons at St. Joseph Cathedral in Baton Rouge in a ceremony celebrated by Bishop Michael G. Duca beginning at 10 a.m.
As part of the rite, Blount and Bresowar will be declared worthy by Vocations Director Father Josh Johnson and Director of Seminarians Father Andrew Merrick. The bishop will then confirm that relying on the help of “the Lord God and our savior Jesus Christ,” the two men to be chosen for the Order of the Diaconate.
Blount and Bresowar, upon being asked several questions by the bishop, will resolve to be consecrated for the church’s ministry, to discharge the office of the deacon with humble charity in order to assist priestly order and to benefit the Christian people, to hold fast to the mystery of faith with a clear conscience and proclaim this faith in word and according to the Gospel and the church’s tradition and also to also take a vow of celibacy.
They will take a promise of obedience to the bishop.
Blount and Bresowar individually will kneel before the bishop, who will lay his hands on each of the deacon candidates, saying the Prayer of Ordination.
Once ordained, Blount and Bresowar will be vested, presented with the Book of Gospels, followed by Bishop Duca giving each a kiss of peace.
Blount, whose home parish is Christ the King Parish and Student Center, in Baton Rouge and Bresowar, whose home parish is St. Theresa of Avila in Gonzales, are scheduled to be ordained to the priesthood in May 2023.
