The Human Resources Department was created in 2011 with the charge of developing over time the foundational elements of a comprehensive human resources function to serve the needs of the Diocese. To date, our Human Resources Office has succesffuly implemented the following:
• Creation and maintenance of complete and current job descriptions;
• Revision of the Lay Employee Policy Manual for Diocesan Curia;
• Completion of a compensation study and creation of a new compensation program for the CLC staff, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, and the Diocese of Baton Rouge Child Nutrition Program;
• Implementation of employment termination process for parishes, schools, and associated Catholic agencies;
• Technical support of the Catholic Schools Office in revision of teacher contracts (annually) and providing standard employment-related forms;
• Development and launch of basic education initiatives including human resources workshops for pastors, principals and bookkeepers, professional benefit materials, and annual employee benefit open enrollment meetings;
• Offer of consulting services to parishes, schools, and associated Catholic agencies – in the areas of employee relations, and employment law and regulations;
• Transformation of employee benefits administration from a manual, paper-driven system to a modern system of electronic benefit records and transmittal of data with reporting capability, and employee self-service portals;
• Ensuring all employee benefit plans into compliance with federal requirements;
• Upgrade of the Diocese’s employee benefits program through the addition of a vision plan and Employee Assistance Program; and
• Institution of benefit plan design strategies, including vendor changes and addition of a robust health and wellness program which reduced the health plan loss ratio from a high of 102% in 2014 to 71% in 2016.
