Bishop Michael G. Duca has appointed Father Alexander Sheldon as sacramental minister to Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church in White Castle.
Father Sheldon will assist Our Lady of Prompt Succor pastoral administrator Father Al Davidson by presiding over liturgies and attending to the spiritual needs of the people of White Castle.
Bishop Duca also announced that Deacon Eddie Renz, an incardinated deacon of the Diocese of Biloxi, Mississippi, who has now moved to Loranger in the Diocese of Baton Rouge, has been assigned as deacon assistant to Mater Dolorosa Church in Independence. Deacon Renz will assist Mater Dolorosa pastor Father Reuben Dykes.
A native of Warren, Michigan, Father Sheldon was ordained by Bishop Alfred M. Hughes on July 6, 2001 at St. Joseph Cathedral. Father Sheldon is a graduate of LSU and Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans.
He has previously served as pastor at St. Pius X Church in Baton Rouge and parochial vicar at Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Gramercy, St. Michael Church in Convent and St. Joseph Church in Paulina, Holy Rosary Church in St. Amant, St. Theresa of Avila Church in Gonzales, Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Denham Springs, St. Philomena Church in Labadieville and St. Jean Vianney Church in Baton Rouge.
Father Sheldon also served as administrator at St. Pius X, St. Jules Church in Belle Rose, St. Elizabeth Church in Paincourtville as well as chaplain at St. Michael the Archangel Diocesan Regional High School in Baton Rouge.
He was also a member of the Presbyteral Council.
Father Sheldon will reside in the parish rectory of St. Anne Church in Napoleonville.
Bishop Duca announced Father Sheldon’s appointment Jan 20, which was effective immediately.
Deacon Renz’s appointment was effective Feb. 1.
