The Diocese of Baton Rouge announced through its website the three-year Eucharistic Revival in the diocese will begin on the feast of Corpus Christi, June 19, with an inaugural Mass and procession beginning at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Cathedral in Baton Rouge.
The United Conference of Catholic Bishops has called for a three-year grassroots revival of devotion and belief in the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. The bishops have said they believe that God wants to see a movement of American Catholics healed, converted, formed and unified by an encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist and for those Catholics to be sent on a mission “for the life of the world.”
According to diocesan officials, the procession has a two-fold purpose, the first being the beginning of the diocesan participation in the National Eucharistic Revival.
Second, the procession will allow parish delegates to participate with a learning mindset so they can assist in planning smaller eucharastic processions on Corpus Christi in 2023 at their respective parishes.
The first year of the revival focuses on reviving eucharistic devotion in diocesan clergy, Catholic Life Center employees, church parish staffs and leaders from other apostolates/ministries.
The year will include Holy Hours, eucharistsic retreats for priests and parish staff and additional opportunities to learn about and abide with Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, diocesan officials said.
Additional details will be forthcoming.
“As the beginning of these three beautiful years dedicated to eucharistic devotion quickly approaches, let us all begin to pray with how the Lord is personally calling each of us to a revival of the heart, mind and soul,” Bishop Michael G. Duca said.
