Although thunderstorms could be heard rumbling throughout the area, only a few sprinkles fell on the annual Marian procession at Our Lady of Pompeii Church in Tickfaw.
The procession began Saturday, July 3, when volunteers removed a statue of the Blessed Virgin from the Mother of Grace Chapel and carried her to Our Lady of Pompeii Church.
The procession stopped at a cemetery along the way to bless the graves. The Blessed Virgin was in place for the 5:30 p.m. vigil Mass, and following Mass, games and concessions were held at Pompeii Hall.
The next day, bingo and concessions started at 3 p.m., with booths opening after 3 p.m. The Brass Band began playing at 4 p.m. and played until benediction at ended at 6 p.m. Following benediction, the statue was returned to Mother of Grace Chapel and people returned to the church where booths were open.
