St. Joseph, the father and guardian of the Christ child, was privileged to witness the birth of Christ. His love and caring guardianship over the Christ child and his mother never ceased throughout his life. That holy man of God, who humbly accepted his role as the protector of the Blessed Mother and of the Messiah, was hunted by those in power at the time.
St. Joseph was brave enough to take Our Lady and her son and hide them from the evil that threatened the life of the newborn baby Jesus, whom he loved, and his beautiful mother, Our Lady, whom he cherished and protected. St. Joseph is an example of all those wonderful men who protect their families, provide for them, bring them the word of God and keep the presence of God in the souls and lives of their own children.
How grateful humanity should be to have had such a great guardian of our faith. St. Joseph literally protected our Catholic faith against the aggressor. Through St. Joseph we look for guidance so that we may walk the path of courage, sacrifice and love for Christ.
How blessed are we that God sent such a protector, not only to his son, but to all of humanity. It was through this protection that our Catholic faith would come to be, so that we would be rejoicing this coming Christmas in the life of that child who brought salvation to the world.
