Well, Father (John) Carville, let me start off commending and praising you for your vocation to the priesthood.
Having said that please understand how you have insulted millions of patriotic American gun owners with your condemning us as idolators.
Let’s not forget how your column trashed our Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution as well as its intention for free people to “keep and bear arms” written by Christian founding fathers. The intention of the Second Amendment is very clear. Even today with our strong military presence and police, when an assailant is kicking in your door at 3 a.m. and the police are 15 to 20 minutes away the only recourse is to be armed.
Yes, a one man militia defending his home and family.
I personally own a couple of guns and am licensed to carry a gun. I target shoot, read articles on guns and am a long time member of the NRA. However in no way do I worship or idolize a gun.
I, as well as millions of other law abiding gun owners, are not the ones committing these atrocities. We are the good guys. I am a practicing Catholic, teach PSR & RCIA classes, a Sachristan, eucharistic minister as well as an extraordinary minister of holy Communion to our homebound parishioners.
Mass shootings have nothing to do with the pro-life movement. More babies are killed by abortion than by any gun. Restricting gun ownership only helps criminals who obviously do not follow any laws.
More adults & children are killed in automobile accidents than by mass shootings or any other firearm related incident so let’s ban cars?
Father, I feel that you should apologize to everyone disrespected by this (column).
Please keep religion and politics separate.
