Our Lady of Pompeii Church, 14450 Hwy. 442, Tickfaw, will present "The Last Supper" dramatization Palm Sunday April 13, 2025 at 7 p.m.
"Viewing this production of "The Last Supper" is a beautiful way to begin Holy Week.
Speaking of this unique live production, many attendees state that it is like seeing the famous painting coming to life," said Virginia Patecek, the director. "The narrators provide the voices of the apostles revealing their background and their innermost thoughts with the actors reflecting their emotional turmoil upon hearing that one of their own will betray Jesus."
Bishop Duca will be the honored guest planning to attend this year's production at the church.
Twenty six years ago, Our Lady of Pompeii Church member Virginia Patecek envisioned a special way to compliment the beginning of Holy Week services by bringing to life Leonardo Da Vinci's famous painting "The Last Supper," and having extensive experience acting in theatrical productions throughout southeast Louisiana, she enlisted men from her church to participate in the production which continues to this day.
Back in 1999, Patecek expressed being a little apprehensive as to what kind of reaction she would get at the prospect of asking men from her church to be in a theatrical production.
"That first year, I didn't know if any of the men at church would be interested in being part of "'The Last Supper'" portrayal," said Patecek. "I was pleasantly surprised that the men not only wanted to participate, but were willing to help in any way with the production."
In fact, many of the men keep coming back whether troubles befall them or illnesses, the participants tend to keep coming back to this beautifully moving ministry which has changed the participants and viewers for the better bringing them all closer to our saviour Jesus Christ, who is always there for us all.
After this solemn production, everyone exits the church in silence. Then, all attendees are invited to gather at the church hall for a light Lenten meal as well as a chance to meet the men of the production, narrators, those working behind the scenes sound engineer Courtney Doucet, who prepared the food & set up the hall to make the following reception possible, and director Virginia Patecek and her assistant and husband George Patecek.
