Woman’s New Life Clinic in Baton Rouge was vandalized on July 11.
Words such as “Fake Clinic” “ACAB” “Abortion is a right” and “Jane’s Revenge” were scrawled in red paint on the clinic’s building and adjoining sidewalks and signage. Pro-life advocates were saddened but expressed their increased resolution and determination to continue their mission of protecting the unborn.
Allison Millet, CEO of Woman’s New Life Clinic, said the clinic was vandalized shortly after 11 p.m.
“No staff or clients were present and all are safe. Woman’s New Life Clinic is deeply saddened by this persecution, but remains undeterred and open to provide life-affirming care to clients. Cleanup efforts are underway, and increased security is present at both the Baton Rouge and New Orleans locations.”
She added, “We are open and available to serve clients.”
Benjamin Clapper, executive director of Louisiana Right to Life, said “It is evident through this attack, and others like it, that pro-abortion groups lack genuine care for women in crisis. While they are out perpetuating violence, they directly violate the women they claim to help by prohibiting centers like Women’s New Life from seeing patients and receiving essential support for their family.
“Woman’s New Life Clinic serves women with life-affirming solutions rather than victimizing them further through the violence of abortion. It is a disgrace that any group, regardless of their position on abortion, would harm women with their destructive behavior.”
Charles and Clelie Carpenter, board members of Baton Rouge Right to Life, wrote in a joint statement, “We are very saddened by this. There is no justification for such violence. It represents civil disobedience, lawlessness and depravity.
“Not to mention that it was SCOTUS that lawfully and constitutionally overturned Roe v Wade – not the pregnancy centers.”
“And secondly, the women’s pregnancy centers perform a number of vital services to women in our communities facing difficult circumstances. We need them. And they need our support and prayers,” said the Carpenters, who are also sidewalk counselors when Delta Clinic, an abortion facility next door to Woman’s New Life Clinic, is open,” the Carpenters said.
Bridget Soileau, a board member of Baton Rouge Right to Life, agreed.
“It’s so unfortunate that there’s a lot of misplaced anger. I don’t know why they are targeting (crisis pregnancy clinics/centers). Their (hostile words) are so opposite of what the pregnancy centers are doing. They are taking their anger out on the people who are trying to help people,” she said.
“To me, it doesn’t do anything to deter Woman’s New Life Clinic,” she added. “They were serving women before and they will serve women after.”
Randall Waguespack, director of the Office of Life, Peace, & Justice of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, urged people to support the women’s crisis pregnancy centers in their time of need.
“It was very sad and disappointing to hear about the vandalism that occurred at the Woman’s New Life Clinic,” said Waguespack. “Our diocese has worked very closely with them in the past, and we know firsthand their commitment to saving babies and to supporting woman so they can choose life. This is a reminder of how the enemy wants to intimidate us to prevent us from continuing the work we are doing.”
“We can’t let this happen because innocent lives depend on the work of the Woman’s New Life Clinic, and they depend on us for our prayers and support. Please reach out to the clinic and find out what you can do to help them,” Waguespack said.
Millet said, “The clinic will continue its mission to promote the sanctity of life, the dignity of women, and the sacredness of sexuality. Woman’s New Life Clinic is a professional medical and mental health clinic that provides free, nurturing care to women in unplanned pregnancies as well as additional low-cost women’s health services, such as STI testing and treatment, well-woman care, urgent gynecologic care, and more.”
