Sister Guadalupe Rosales HMSS, 89, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away Oct. 11, 2022.
She was born April 7, 1933, in Torreon, Coahuila Mexico. Madre Guadalupe Rosales de la Eucaristia entered the Congregation of the Mercedarian Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament on June 21, 1953.
Her father died when she was eight years old, and her mother placed her and her sister in boarding school in order for her mother to be able to go to work.
She lived a happy life with her religious sisters. When she graduated from grammar school in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, the principal told her mother that she could put her in a boarding school run by the same Congregation of the Mercedarian Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament in Corpus Christi, Texas. After Sister Guadalupe graduated from high school, she joined the order in San Antonio, Texas, where the house of formation was located and entered the order at the age of 19.
Sister Guadalupe was an excellent schoolteacher in the different communities where she was assigned, such as San Antonio, Corpus Christi, San Diego, and Barstow, California. She was loved by many of her students. She served as Regional Superior from 2000-2006.
She has been in Baton Rouge since November 2011. Sister Guadalupe was Regional Superior when the Mercedarian Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament arrived in Baton Rouge in April 2001.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at the Chapel of Divine Providence, Cypress Springs Mercedarian Prayer Center in Baton Rouge by Bishop Michael G. Duca. Pallbearers were the Mercedarian Sisters.
