Sister Mary Josephine CSJ, 90, was born in New Roads on June 16, 1932 to Joseph Guarino Sr. and Josephine Irnonnie Guarino. She entered eternal life Sept. 12, at Marian Hall at the Wichita Center of the Congregation of St. Joseph in Wichita, Kansas.
She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in New Orleans and professed first vows March 20, 1953. Her final profession was Aug. 15, 1956.
Sister Mary graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1965, followed by Montessori Certification in 1975. Her 46 years of teaching became a ministry which she dearly loved, especially teaching primary age children and the importance she placed on the Montessori method of teaching small children.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Virginia Guarino Lorusso, Dr. Guy Guarino and Russell Guarino.
In addition to her sisters and associates of the congregation, she is survived by her brother, Joseph Guarino Jr.
A memorial Mass was celebrated in Resurrection Chapel in Wichita on Sept. 21 at 10:30 a.m.
