Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge (CCDBR) is seeking sponsors for the nearly 300 families in need this Christmas.
Starting in September, CCDBR screened and verified more than 400 families and clients from the past year for whom Christmas gifts are an extra expense.
"We still have close to 300 families needing a sponsor," said Stephanie Sterling, executive director of CCDBR. "If we don't find sponsors for these families and seniors, these families will go without this Christmas, and we’re doing our best to ensure that doesn’t happen."
The matching process is automated with donors having the ability to choose recipient families at christmas.ccdiobr.org. Donors may request a family with a specific number of household members.
"We are praying we don't have to make those phone calls to our clients saying they weren't sponsored," Sterling said.
Donors are able to shop from clients’ wish lists or provide gift cards. Many of the wish lists consist of necessities, like towels, sheets, clothes, and personal hygiene items.
The deadline to choose a sponsor family is November 30. Gift delivery dates are December 2-6 and December 9. Visit christmas.ccdiobr.org to learn how the program works and to choose a family in need.
Although the CCDBR list of eligible client recipients is closed, if you need assistance this Christmas, call 2-1-1 for available resources.
