The Catholic Commentator won 12 overall awards, including General Excellence, in the annual Louisiana Press Association Better Newspaper Competition.
The Commentator won the General Excellence Award for the second time in three years, and a year ago was awarded Newspaper of the Year.
“As a staff we are honored and humbled to win the General Excellence Award,” said Richard Meek, editor and general manager of The Catholic Commentator. “All of the awards are testimony to the dedication and commitment of the staff, who continue to excel in putting out a quality Catholic publication even when confronting challenging circumstances.”
Assistant Editor Debbie Shelley was awarded second place in Best News Story and third place in Best Feature Photo; graphic designer Nicole Latiolais won one second place and two third place awards for layout and design and Meek won first place and second place in Best News Photo, first place in Best Sports Column, second place in Best Feature Story and third place in Best Headline
