In 2015, Bishop Robert W. Muench announced during the Chrism Mass celebrated at St. Aloysius Catholic Church that the Pastoral Planning Task Force had been formed. At that time, he noted that because of a shrinking number of clergy, “demographics clearly pose a challenge.”
Today's Task Force consists of Chairman Father Trey Nelson and other clergy and lay diocesan leaders including Father Tom Ranzino (Vicar General) Father Jamin David (Episcopal Vicar for Strategic Planning), Father Matthew Graham (Pastor, Immaculate Conception, Denham Springs), Dr. Tina Holland (Preident of FRANU, Baton Rouge), Marci Buckle (St. John the Baptist, Brusly) and Ron Roullier (St. Jean Vianney, Baton Rouge).
These lay persons, religious and priests have given this time of themselves freely because they believe in the church and the future of the Diocese of Baton Rouge. While implementation of the recommendations made has not always been easy and while there has often been high emotion, Father Trey "I have personally found every Catholic lay person to be open and confident that the Holy Spirit is guiding us into the future. Our bishops have continually called us to be more ecclesial and less parochial. This means more our church and less my parish.”
