Marriage And Family Life > Married Couples > Separation, Divorce, & The Widowed
While separation of the spouses while maintaing the marriage bond can be legitimate in certain cases (Cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2383), married persons are nonetheless called to live a healthy and holy union as a visible sign of God's love. Sometimes, marrriage doesn't go as planned and spouses find themselves in a place of great difficulty, where separation, and even civil divorce are seen as a last recourse. If you're in the midst of either of these scenarios, please know that The Catholic Church wishes to be near to you and does not abandon Her children especially in times of great pain.
